Locals like me consider Angell & Phelps one of our area’s best-kept secrets.

The Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory is located just 25 minutes south of Plantation Bay in downtown Daytona Beach.

This old fashioned chocolate factory has been making some of the best homemade chocolates you will find anywhere since 1925!

Angell & Phelps chocolates are a popular choice among corporate gift givers not just at holiday time but year-round, and growing up here I looked forward to every Christmas and Easter when I knew for certain I’d find some Angell & Phelps in my stocking or basket.

Angell & Phelps was even tapped a few years ago to supply chocolates for all of the celebrity gift bags at ESPN’s ESPY Awards.

History of Angell & Phelps

The Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory was started in 1925 by Riddell Angell and Cora Phelps all the way up in Mackinac Island, Michigan.

Then, right around the start of World War I, the ladies packed up their business and moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. As you might imagine, making chocolate in Daytona Beach during the summer and before air conditioning was available must have been quite the difficult task!

The Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory has stood the test of time and today they are still making many of the same recipes using many of the same old-fashioned pieces of equipment.

Many of the most popular products could not be made without the help of a skilled chocolate maker, which is what separates Angell & Phelps chocolate products from their competition.

Touring the Chocolate Factory

Not only are visitors able to purchase plenty of great chocolate products in the store at Angell & Phelps, they can also take a twenty minute tour of the facility absolutely free of charge.

These tours take place every Monday through Saturday at 10:00 am and 11:00 am, then again at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, and 4:00 pm.

On your factory tour, you will have a chocolate expert tour guide who walks you through the entire factory, explaining each step of the chocolate making process.

You will be able to watch every aspect of the Angell & Phelps operation through large cottage windows.

This allows you to see first-hand the amount of attention and detail that goes into every single piece of homemade chocolate produced here.

Each tour lasts approximately 20 minutes and ends with guests being permitted to take two free samples each, right off of the production line. All tours are wheelchair and stroller accessible, and parking is always free of charge.

Visiting the Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory is like taking a step back in time that lets you see how things used to be done, and why the chocolate tastes better that way.

The next time you are looking for something fun and interesting to do near Plantation Bay, take a quick drive down to Daytona Beach and check out the impressive Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory for yourself!
